Food Justice in Richmond
Common Ground will offer an Alternative Spring Break entitled Food Justice in Richmond in March, 2015. Featuring trips into the city, to local farms, and non-profits, we will examine our community’s access to local and healthy food. Together we will think about who has the easiest access to healthy food, who does not and who is working to address the disparities.
The break will feature time with community partners, service, learning and reflecting about what we’ve learned. If you are interested in healthy, local, fresh, affordable, sustainable food, and understanding the challenges that some people face to accessing it, you will want to apply to this program.
The Break will run from Sunday evening, March 9 – Friday, March 14, 2015.
Students will stay on campus in their residence halls during the break, or should plan to meet us on-campus for our activities, usually spanning from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm each day.
There will be no cost for activities, or meals spent together. Some meals, like breakfast, will be on your own and there will be dining halls open during that time.
Once accepted, students must commit to attend the entire program.
Complete the online application at http://commonground.richmond.edu/programs/food-justice.html. There is only room for 10 students, and priority will be given to students who apply before December 1, 2014, but if space is still available the official application deadline will be January 24, 2015.
