Position Title: Virginia Mentoring Partnership – VISTA Mentor Program Coordinator
Position Description:Applications are currently being accepted for the position of VMP VISTA Mentor Program Coordinator at host sites through the Virginia Mentoring Partnership. The member will be instrumental in establishing, developing or building capacity for their assigned host mentoring organization. The VISTA member will design and implement a mentor recruitment and marketing program; launch and facilitate training initiatives; match and support mentors and mentees; and, evaluating the program. The position is full-time, 40 hour/week and will be housed various sites throughout Virginia. Special consideration will be given to candidates who possess any of the following skills and experience: Training skills, organizational development, working with youth, expertise with special needs youth, working with college volunteers. Positions are available in Charlottesville, Northern Virginia, Central Virginia, Williamsburg/ Newport News and Portsmouth, Virginia.
Virginia Mentoring Partnership’s Mission:The Virginia Mentoring Partnership, (VMP) is an independent, 501 (c) 3 state-wide organization, founded in 1994 to provide training and technical assistance to mentoring programs around Virginia. Qualifications: Undergraduate degree encouraged; applicants should be enthusiastic, committed to the ethic of service and interested in serving in Virginia. Qualities sought include good organizational skills; computer skills ; communication and writing skills; ability to work with others from a diverse background; possessing self-initiative and past experience in volunteering and/or within the nonprofit sector.
Benefits of AmeriCorps VISTA Service: The VISTA member is paid $11, 352 annual stipend ($15,994 for Northern Virginia) with a $5,500 education award or a $1500 cash stipend of appreciation presented at the end of a year of service. The VISTA position is yearlong, with a possibility of 2nd and 3rd year extensions. All compensation is provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). HEALTH CARE, child care, life insurance and some relocation expenses are all available as well as intensive training through CNCS (all expenses paid) and by the Virginia Mentoring Partnership.
The target date for hiring is July 1, 2014. Required pre-service training, paid in full by CNCS, is scheduled for July or August, 2014. Depending on the site, twelve month position runs from July, 2014 to July, 2015 or from August, 2014 to August, 2015.
