South Cumberland Plateau VISTAs Accepting Applications
In partnership with the South Cumberland Community Fund, the  University has received a grant to sponsor 10 year long AmeriCorps VISTAs in the local area starting in August.  The AmeriCorps VISTA program, known informally as the “domestic peace corps” offers a year of community service, in pioneering programs designed to alleviate poverty.
VISTAs commit to a twelve-month term of service, beginning in August 2014. In this program,  VISTA members will be focused on addressing poverty alleviation through supporting development of   innovative Economic, Education, Health, and  Hunger programs. Each VISTA is matched with a service site at an off-campus non-profit partner where they connect the resources of our campus and the community to further strengthen their work. Benefits include:
• 12-Month Training Calendar in Community Organizing
• $11,136 living stipend
• Health Coverage
• $5,550 Segal Education Award or $1,500 Stipend at End of Service
• Relocation Allowance
• Child Care Assistance (if eligible)

Allegheny College Offering Two Open Bonner Staff Positions
Associate Director of Civic Engagement & Bonner Program Director
The Associate Director of Civic Engagement & Bonner Program Director  is the primary liaisons to the Bonner Foundation and is responsible for directing the diverse, 60 member, Bonner service leader program. In addition this position coordinates other civic engagement initiatives in the Gateway and in the community. This position works with a broad range of diverse students including first generation students.Masters degree is required and three to five years of experience in a civic engagement related field and demonstrated cultural competency in working with students from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
Bonner Program Coordinator
The Bonner Program Coordinator is responsible for working with the diverse, 60 member, Bonner service leader program, and supporting various civic engagement and community service programs on campus and in the community. The Coordinator works with a broad range of diverse students including first generation students.  A minimum of two years of experience in civic engagement or a related field is expected. Demonstrated cultural competency in working with students from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
