On Monday, March 24th the Documentaries in the Greek Social Justice Film Festival will show The Central Park Five in the Jenkins Greek Theater at 7:30pm. The film explores how the media portrays race, focusing on the Central Park jogger case of 1989, in which five black and latino teenagers were convicted of raping a white woman in New York City’s Central Park.
A guest speaker, Dr. Natalie Byfield, author of Savage Portrayals: Race, Media, and the Central Park Jogger Story, will follow the film. Her talk is set to begin at 9:00pm in the North Court Reception room adjacent to the Jenkins Greek Theater.
Popcorn, cookies/brownies, coffee, and hot chocolate will be available free of charge at both the film and the following discussion. We hope to see you out there!
