Nuclear disarmament expert Randy Rydell visits UR to lead a discussion on the rhetorical and political opportunities and challenges that mark the craft of international disarmament. Currently a senior political affairs officer, speechwriter, and arms control consultant for the United Nations, Dr. Rydell formerly served Senator John Glenn as a policy expert on nuclear warfare, and helped lead Hans Blix’s Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission. As author of key disarmament legislation, countless international speeches, and influential editorials and academic scholarship, Dr. Rydell draws on a career of promoting peace, and he will speak to the power of language in the construction of anti-nuclear messages.
